Library Computerisation

The work of computerised cataloguing of current books in the Science Library and Economics and Political Science Library are satisfactory. The introduction of LYBSIS-LSEase 4, College Edition Software, and installation of a powerful server, upgradation of existing computers and LAN between the Science Library and the Economics & Political Science Library has been of great help not only in cataloguing but also for the Circulation of books. Gradually entire circulation of books will be computerized.

Internet facility has been provided in Science and Arts Libraries.

Preservation of Books & Rare Documents

Needless to say, ours is one of the oldest libraries in the country and its old and rare collections are housed in old buildings of the College. So effective and regular pest control can only save our national heritage. Apart from the Arts Library, the Science Library and the ground floor of the Central Library buildings are also infested with termites. Of late, the PWD has done some pest control treatment in the Arts Library.

The matching grant (Rs. 66,670/-) from the Government of West Bengal towards the Scheme of financial assistance for preservation of manuscripts / Rare books, etc. sanctioned earlier by the National Archives, Government of India has been received and necessary work orders for supply of Vacuum Cleaners, Fumigation & Thermal Chambers, Exhaust fans and work for the binding and lamination have been issued. It is expected that the total grant (Rs. 2,66,667/-) will be utilized very soon.

Conservation of Oil Paintings

The Victoria Memorial has on our request taken over the task of restoring old oil paintings. Dr. Chittaranjan Panda, Secretary & Curator, Victoria Memorial Hall and its Restoration Unit have assured us of their best cooperation in this regard.
